WHO WAS WHO Baron Brougham and Vaux, Henry Peter Brougham (1778-1868) A lawyer and Whig MP, elevated to the peerage in 1830 and Lord Chancellor from 1830 to 1834. He was a supporter of a number of liberal causes including free trade, the abolition of slavery, electoral reform and state education. Brougham spoke in favour of Jewish emancipation in the House of Commons. Brougham is mentioned in Louise de Rothschild's diary. Contents |
