Exhibition - Season's Greetings

3: 1904 Postcard with New Year wishes sent to Baron Edmond de Rothschild

Baron James de Rothschild (1792-1868) established a foundation in Paris in 1852, of which the first manifestation was the construction of a hospital on the rue Picpus. The scope of activities of the Fondation Rothschild was extended by the Rothschild brothers Alphonse (1827-1905), Gustave (1829-1911) and Edmond (1845-1934) in 1904; Edmond providing much of the funds for the construction of new hospital buildings.

This postcard, dated 3 January 1904, offers New Year greetings to Baron Edmond de Rothschild (1845-1934). It was sent from Joseph Lasreg. It bears a photograph of Lasreg, a Tunisian swimming champion, in his swimming costume; Joseph Lasreg had received treatment from the hospital.
