GDPR and Historical Archives

The eabh in co-operation with the European Central Bank are calling for papers for their joint workshop, GDPR & Historical Archives, 23 March 2020, European Central Bank, Sonnemannstrasse 20, Frankfurt am Main, Germany.

This workshop aims to look at the impact of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) on historical archives, in particular, but not exclusively, in the financial sector. Amongst others, following questions will be addressed at the workshop: What is new for historical archives under the GDPR regime? Has the GDPR drastically changed the handling of personal information in archives? How shall we balance data protection with other significant areas relevant for archives, in particular public access to records (transparency) and freedom of science? Can we identify particular data protection requirements in the financial sector (public institutions as well as private banks)? How shall the GDPR be further developed in the future?
