Researchers may request an appointment to visit our Reading Room in the City of London in person, or apply to access our digital resources. All researchers must be registered members of the Rothschild Research Forum.

The range of disciplines and topics illuminated by the collections of The Rothschild Archive include banking, financial and business history; the history of economic and industrial development in many parts of the globe; the social and political context of business life in 19th and 20th Century Europe; fine art, the decorative arts and the history of the collecting; natural history, gardens and architecture, and historical information about members of the Rothschild family and their estates.

The Rothschild Research Forum

Researchers are strongly enouraged to apply for membership of the Rothschild Research Forum. Visiting Us

Access to Collections held in London

The Rothschild Archive London holds the business records of the London firm of N M Rothschild & Sons, together with some papers of Rothschild banking businesses in Paris and Vienna. Researchers should note that few papers of the Frankfurt, Vienna and Naples banking houses survive. The Rothschild Archive London holds comparatively few collections of personal papers of members of the Rothschild family. Read more about visiting us in London »

Access to Collections held in France

Archive Research Bursary

A limited number of Bursaries are available each year to assist research projects that involve substantial use of The Rothschild Archive’s collections. The bursaries are primarily intended to facilitate international travel by doctoral students and early career academics. Recipients are usually researchers based outside the United Kingdom who wish to use the Archive’s collections in London and researchers based outside France who wish to use the Archive’s collections deposited with the Archives Nationales du Monde du Travail in Roubaix.
